$35 RYOBI 18V ONE+ Hand Vacuum (PCL705B)

Wow, it’s only $35?!

For being a well-known brand, $35 seems like a really good deal.

So we did a little digging.

Model PCL705B VS Model PCL705K

The only difference between the two is the inclusion of the battery and charger.

In PCL705B, RYOBI 18V ONE+ battery and charger are not included. The letter B in PCL705B stands for “Bare tool.”

In PCL705K, their 2.0 Ah battery and charger are included. K in PCL705K stands for “Kit.”

Currently, PCL705K is sold for $59.00 on the RYOBI’s site and at The Home Depot.

Universal 1-¼ in Accessories (Not included)

It is compatible with any Universal 1 ¼ inch accessories, so your old vacuum’s attachments and accessories might actually fit. You can also find the adapter so you can use the accessories in different sizes to be able to attach to this nozzle.

RYOBI do sell their own accessory kit for $34.97 (A32K05), or you can look around for more options online like Amazon and the Home Depot because as long as it’s a universal 1-¼ inch, it will definitely work.

18V ONE+ Batteries and Runtime

Just like all the RYOBI One+ tools, this vacuum can only take its own RYOBI 18V One+ batteries. It will not work with other brands’ like DEWALT or Milwaukee batteries.

It makes this vacuum cordless but it’s not the type of cordless vacuum that is with a built-in battery. There’s no need to connect the plug to the vacuum and to the outlet or place it on the wall mountable charger to recharge it. And you don’t need to throw the whole vacuum away when the built-in battery dies.

On RYOBI’s specification, it says that the runtime for this vacuum is up to 25 minutes. However, it really depends on the size and the condition of the battery to determine the runtime. With a fully charged new condition 2 Ah battery, it would more likely run up to 25 minutes. New batteries with greater Ah will have a longer runtime.

Inside the Dust Cup

There are 3 parts:

  1. Dust Cup (or Dust Bowl)
  2. Filter Housing
  3. Filter

Dust Cup: By just pushing down the release button, the dust cup would easily open. The capacity is 2.5 cups.

Filter Housing: It’s washable, but you do want to dry it up completely before putting it back in as this is for dry vacuuming only.

Filter: It’s replaceable. The day to replace the filter will come for anyone, so we searched to see if there were any generic ones out there, but ryobitools.com was the only site that had the replacements. 2-Pack Standard filters (A32F05) is $14.00 and 2-Pack HEPA filters (A32HF00) is $18.64.

We recommend keeping up with the cleaning of these parts for your hand vacuum to keep running efficiently and last longer.

Pros and Cons
Pros

Easy cleaning

We felt that this hand vacuum is very easy to use and very easy to vacuum. It’s a great one for quick cleaning and spot cleaning.

Good suction

As you can see in our video, we tested it by vacuuming salt on a tile floor, dog food on a tile floor and debris and pet hair on the floor of a car, and even without attaching the accessories, it cleaned them up well. We felt that the suction was powerful.

Multi-tool battery

The battery is designed to be used with ONE+ tools, so the RYOBI-tool users would most likely have multiple ONE+ batteries. If the battery runs out in the middle of your cleaning, you can swap the battery and keep going. We think this is one of the keys that make people decide to buy this product.

Great price

If you already own a RYOBI ONE+ battery, it’s a great price. For being a well-established brand, you can’t beat the price.

Cons

Noisy

We have used quite some handheld vacuums in the past, but we felt that it was a bit loud. We tested the noise level when it was brand new (hadn’t been vacuumed before), so the filter and motor were still clean and couldn’t have been the cause.

Batteries are expensive

If you don’t own RYOBI tools and use their batteries, it will be expensive because you would have to buy the battery and charger to be able to use this hand vacuum. And you would most probably want to get one more spare battery to have it on the side.

Recommend or Not Recommend

Yes, we recommend if you already own RYOBI tools with RYOBI batteries.
