Key Features

2 Tools in 1

You can use it as a chainsaw or pole chainsaw. To convert it to a pole chain saw, first, pull the handle lock toward you. Slide the removable cutting head up to remove it.

Connect the telescoping pole until it clicks into position.

Auto-Oiler

This feature lubricates the 10 inch Sun Joe cutting bar and chain automatically.

Telescoping Pole

It extends to 8.8 feet for up to 15 feet overhead reach. To adjust the telescoping pole, unclip the cam-lock. Extend to the desired length, then lock it by closing the cam-lock.

8-Amp Motor

Powerful 8-amp motor cuts branches up to 9.5 inches thick. 9 inches is the maximum and not to exceed. Up to 8.5 inches is what they recommend.

Installing the Guide Bar and Cutting Chain

To install the guide bar and chain, you would need to use the supplied hex key wrench / flat-tip blade screwdriver.

Unscrew the end cover nut and remove the chain/sprocket end cover.

You want the direction of the chain, indicated by the arrows on the guide bar and cutting chain, facing away from you as you are holding the saw.

Mount the chain drive links into the bar groove and place the loop around the sprocket.

Adjust the chain tension as needed by adjusting the chain tensioner screw with the flat-tip blade screwdriver.

Put the chain / sprocket end cover back on but loosely for tension adjustment.

The chain tensioner screw is located at the left side of the guide bar.

The chain should sit snugly against the bar with the drive links in the bar groove.

Then make sure you tighten the end cover nut using the wrench at the end.

Pros and Cons
Pros

Convertible/2-in1

For Pros, first, we liked that it can convert to a handy chain saw and to a pole chain saw. The converting assembly was quite easy, too.

Cuts very smoothly

The cutting was very smooth. We were impressed with how well and quickly it cut.

Auto-Oiler

Lubricating the bar and chain automatically is a really nice feature. It is contributing to the smooth cutting.

Powered electrically

Although it’s a bit of a hassle when it’s corded, knowing that it would be reliably powered felt quite a relief. Powerful tools like this, you don’t want to deal with the battery running out in the middle of cutting.

Cons

Misleading with 15 ft overhead reach

For Cons, we thought it was a bit misleading with the description saying the pole extends for up to 15 feet overhead reach. The maximum that the pole can extend is 8.8 feet, so this means that you would have to be over 6 feet to be able to reach 15 feet. And sturdily hold it above your head to cut, that would be very difficult.

Heavy with the pole

When it’s converted to a pole chainsaw, it was quite a workout holding a 8.3 pound pole.

We understand that we are holding a small electric chainsaw up with the pole, but we felt that doing such a job for a long period of time was very unlikely.

Replacement chain not available?

Sooner or later, you would need to replace the chain, but it might not be available. The 10 inch replacement chain on Sun Joe site is $14.99 plus shipping, but it has been out of stock. We called their customer service and found out that it was not discontinued, but they didn’t know exactly when it would be back in stock. We recommend that you check the availability often and purchase one as soon as it becomes available.

Recommend or Not Recommend

We really couldn’t find anything negative to say about this product. Even though it’s mostly plastic, it is made pretty well and easy to use. Any of all, you can’t beat the price and how smoothly it cuts. So, we do recommend this convertible pole chainsaw.

Thanks so much for checking out our blog and video!!

We will have more to come soon and please check out our other reviews!
